NBNE is an experimental performance project co-created with Stephen Harding and presented as part of the Mayfest on May 28, 2024, at The House, Plymouth University.
In this work, we used various materials (such as fabric, ash, and torch) and forms, starting with the concept of the ‘Circle’, to explore different themes based on our respective lived-experiences. I regard this project as an open field for exploration and reflection on our own embodied experiences rather than as a production-oriented performance. (practice journal can be found here)
The practice process was guided by a series of questions, including:
- what traces has Chinese Classical Dance training left on my body?
- What impact have these traces had on me?
- To what extent can these traces be erased?
- What conflicts arise between standardized training and my personal expression?
